Not gonna lieanytime I can use the Instant Pot to create anything, Im down to make it happen! And if youve never tried jackfruit before, this is the perfect recipe to make it happen. Have you ever tried Jackfruit? Do you have an Instant Pot? How great is it to gather the two of them together and try this out! The citrus flavors orange and lime make me want to use my Instant Pot!

How Much You Need

How many carbs you need depends on a lot of factors, but the main one is how active you are. If youâre very active, you need quite a few carbs. If youâre moderately active or sedentary, you donât need as many carbs.

According to the National Academy of Medicine, adults should get 45 to 65 percent of their daily calories from carbs. On a 1,200-calorie diet, thatâs 540 to 780 calories or 135 to 195 grams. Nutrition statistics show U.S. adults typically get between 46 and 48 percent of their daily calories from carbs, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Tip

If youâve decided to follow one of the many low-carbohydrate diets out there, remember that fiber doesnât count toward your total carb intake. That means you donât have to cut out vegetables. In fact, you should be eating a lot of vegetables.

Mushroom Spinach And Goat Cheese Frittata

Why We Love It: Not only is this meal deliciously low-carb, but its also packed with nutritious protein thanks to the eggs, mushroom, and goats cheese. All you really need to whip up a delicious frittata are eggs and veggies. And we do mean any veggies. Were talking whatever random ingredients you have left in the veg drawer of your fridge: cauliflower, wilted greens, onions, sliced potatoes, those lifeless asparagus spears on their last legs. The world is your err frittata!

Hero Ingredient: I just cant rave about mushrooms enough. Theyre nutritious, flavorful, and go well with just about everything. Especially spinach and goat cheese in this frittata.

How Many Carbs Should You Eat

There is no fixed definition of exactly what low carb means.

It is important to experiment and figure out a way to match your carb intake to your own goals and preferences.

That being said, these guidelines are reasonable:

  • 100-150 grams per day: This is a decent maintenance range, and is good for people who exercise a lot.
  • 50-100 grams per day: This should lead to automatic weight loss, and is a good maintenance range for people who dont exercise that much.
  • 20-50 grams per day: With a carb intake this low, you should lose weight quickly without experiencing much hunger. This carb range should put you into ketosis.

Vegetarians could easily go into the lowest range, but such a diet would be impractical for vegans. The 100-150 gram range would be more suitable for vegans.

It is recommended to use a nutrition tracker for at least a few days/weeks while you are fine-tuning your carbohydrate intake and making sure to get enough protein and fat.

    Storing And Freezing Low Carb Tortillas

    • To store: Leftover tortillas can be stored in the refrigerator, covered in paper towels AND plastic wrap. The paper towel ensures it stays soft and fluffy, and less resistant to becoming dry. Tortillas will keep well for up to 5 days. Let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before using.
    • To freeze: Freeze leftovers in ziplock bags, and store them in the freezer for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature or in the refrigerator overnight.
    • Reheating: Microwave the wraps for 30-40 seconds, until soft and pliable.

    Can A Vegetarian Be On A Low

    Of course! For Lacto-Ovo vegetarians, a low-carb diet shouldnt be much trouble to maintain although vegans might find a harder time with such, as veganism is already an incredibly restrictive diet.

    Its important to note though, there are detrimental effects of maintaining a low-carb diet for prolonged periods despite the numerous benefits of going on one, so keep this in mind if these are unchartered waters for you.

    What Is Considered Low

    It depends on how you classify something as low carb. For example, currently, the most famous low carb diet is the ketogenic diet. To make a ketogenic diet work your daily carb intake should be 20-50g at a maximum to ensure ketosis occurs.

    Note that for ketosis, 20-50g carbs is the maximum, independent of whether you need 1500 calories a day or 3000 a day.

    So that means you have to be more absolute with carb numbers to ensure you get under 50g carbs and even more important because by nature that 50g doesnt scale with calorie intake.

    But if your goal isnt a ketogenic diet and you arent trying for ketosis, then something like 10-15% of carbs in a meal would scale well enough. It would be low carb, just not ketogenic low carb.

    In comparison, when you follow a standard vegetarian diet you get about 40-60% carbs per day.
